All equine animals (horses, mules, asses, ponies and other Equidae) brought to CYA Exchange from within Ohio need to meet EIA testing requirements. NO EQUINE WILL BE TESTED AT CYA EXCHANGE.

All equine animals (horses, mules, asses, ponies and other Equidae) imported or brought into Ohio need to be accompanied by a CVI and meet EIA testing requirements.

Certificate of Veterinary Inspection
A completed CVI that is signed by an accredited veterinarian.  
Must have been issued within 30 days prior to coming into Ohio.
Must be issued at the point of origin immediately prior to entering OH.
Certify that the animal(s) has been given a thorough inspection.
Animal(s) found to be free of symptoms of any dangerously infectious or contagious or communicable diseases or exposure thereto.

Rectal temperature at time of the examination must be recorded.

 

Exception
An owner may substitute an Owner shipper statement (OSS) in place of the CVI if the equine is consigned to a licensed livestock market with a veterinary inspector present. An EIA test is required and can be drawn at the market if the animal requires one.

Any movement document must include the following information:​

• Date of shipment (OSS) or date of examination (CVI)

• Number, sex, age, and breed of equines within the shipment

• Name and address of the owner prior to shipment

• Name and address of the destination

• And official identification of each animal (if required) 

 

EIA testing requirements

• Animals 12 months of age or older it must have proof of a negative EIA (Coggins) Test was conducted at a state or federally approved laboratory 

• Within the previous 12 months prior to importation.

 

Identification

• A description sufficient to identify the individual animal including but not limited to: name, age, breed, color, gender, distinctive markings, unique characteristics (brands, tattoos, scars, cowlicks, etc.)

• Electronic ID that is ISO compliant (unless placed prior to 3/11/2014)

• Digital photographs (sufficient to identify the animal)

If requested by ODA, the person responsible for the animal must provide a chronological list of the dates, places, and events the animal has attended within 30 days prior to import into Ohio.
